My daughter and I had the privilege of eating at this establishment last night before our concert at T mobile center. Our shared meal was delicious, the restaurant was lovely, and our waitress ( 796 ) K.H. was a delight! Thank you K.H. you are a wonderful server!

Hotel restaurants can be hit or miss, this place inside Ambassador Hotel didn't disappoint. From greeting by hotel hostess to the great services form our waiter, I'd come back.
My friend and I chose: Shrimp & grits and Chicken n Waffles. Both plated presentation done with classic.
Shrimp n grits ingredients were not your typical with tomatoes, spinach and sweet chili butter.. all adding sweet mix of flavors with the entire dish.
Chicken was cooked perfectly.. lightly crisp that melts in you mouth.. juicy and flavorful!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dianna C.San Antonio, TX311423Sep 16, 2023
The American Reserve is situated within the Ambassador Hotel Kansas City. The decor offsets the poor lighting in the American Reserve restaurant. Few guests seem to dine in the hotel restaurant which ultimately seemed to affect the servers enthusiasm.
The brunch on the other hand was creative and expertly plated! While the service appeared to improve momentarily, the server became excessively loud and rude when she failed to calculate the debt correctly against the funds received. Sadly, I included a very generous tip designed to offset the lack of guests that I now wish I had reduced after the unprofessional outburst.
My recommendation to hotel and restaurant management is to teach their staff & servers to apologize when they make a mistake and remain professional regardless the situation.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jan 7, 2024
We came here on NYE after being at the Chiefs game. We had reservations at 7:30 but got there about 7 and they were able to seat us early. They had a smaller than normal menu but there was no mention of that on the website so that was disappointing. I had the pork chops with mac and cheese and it was really good but nothing came out very hot and our service was not outstanding. I would say this place is fine but I probably won't be back because there are so many great options downtown.

I came for dinner and the live music was amazing and I loved the ambiance of the space. My food did come out cold which was unfortunate but it was still very delicious. The waitress was incredibly sweet! My friend got the salmon and it was a pretty small portion. I don't think I would come back though since it was nothing special.

We had a wonderful evening at The American Reserve on a double date. We went there an hour before our reservation to grab a drink at the bar. We loved sitting in on the lounge couches enjoying our cocktails. I ordered an espresso martini and my boyfriend enjoyed the cool as a cucumber. Both drinks were delicious!
When we sat down for dinner, we instantly ordered the Formaggio dip which was insane and is a must!! I wish it had come with more bread because we had to order extra which was an additional charge, but the dip was delicious. For dinner we ordered the salmon, roasted chicken and the French dip. Each of us loved what we ordered! The menu isn't anything wild or out of the ordinary but we agreed everything we ordered was cooked perfectly and had lots of flavor.
The restaurant was packed during our dinner and there was some live jazz music being performed in part of the restaurant which added a nice element to our dinner. We had a great time here and all four of us loved our food. I would definitely come back here!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Natalie T.Overland Park, KS04Feb 19, 2024
I have been here a few times for brunch and the first three times were incredible. Great ambiance and good food selection, especially for those with allergies.
This last time the food was meh and it appeared they didn't have a bartender at the beginning. I will be back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 5, 2023
Still swooning over the most perfect date night at The American Reserve inside The Ambassador. This historic KC building is not only home to the stunning swanky hotel, but its resident restaurant offers a unique dining experience. From breakfast to dinner, from cozy to romantic, they offer a specially curated menu for all occasions. Start with one of their signature craft cocktails and a Sharable (do NOT skip the Formaggio Dip made with Scimecas sausage), and take in the gorgeous decor, low lights, and on weekends, live music. For your entree, you have to try one of their USDA prime graded steaks or their Grilled Salmon. And make sure to leave room for one of their amazing desserts! (You know we did. )
And if you're lucky, score a reservation for Lonnies Reno Club on the basement level for the most epic live jazz performance of your life.
The Reserve is located right in the heart of downtown, within walking distance of P&L and the many theaters and is steps away from a streetcar stop, so it serves as either a solo stop or part of your night on the town.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - David H.Beaumont, TX023Feb 2, 2024
Cool spot, food was excellent and good drinks menu. Service was prompt and knowledgeable about options. Nice feel to the restaurant.

I was very disappointed with my experience at The American Reserve after looking forward to a nice evening out. First, the skillet cornbread didn't taste like cornbread should. It tasted like it had too much of something and was gummy on the inside. Our chopped salad was supposed to have an egg and it mentions the tomato vinaigrette not dried tomatoes which had too many in them. The KC Strip steak was bland and the potatoes au gratin was cold. I sent it back and the second one wasn't any better. I've never had au gratin potatoes that was made with eggs. It had a taste of quiche in it.
One reason I picked a Saturday night was to hear the band. That was a disappointment as well. I've heard this guy perform at another venue and knew I'd see a nice performance but that night was not his night. He didn't seem to remember words to some of the songs and he was singing very low.
I'm not sure I'd be back for dinner. I'm not trying to bash the place but gibing a review of my visit.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
